Gift Card Exchange Day
Definition: December 26th, the most popular day gift cards received during the holidays are exchanged or sold
According to consulting company CEB TowerGroup, $1 billion worth of gift cards will be going unused this year because recipients won’t know what to buy with them or will lose them. Luckily, Gift Card Exchange Day is an opportunity for those unsatisfied recipients to turn those cards into cash instead or swap them out for a card they can actually use!
Sites like Giftcardexchangeday.com and Giftcardgranny.com allow you to enter the merchant of the card (along with its value) and generate offers for your card almost instantly. Walmart is also getting on board with Gift Card Exchange Day, offering one of their cards to replace one that you don’t want! The cards can’t be exchanged for the full value, but this is still a great opportunity for them to drive up their online traffic. If all goes well, they will make these exchanges a permanent service they will offer!
Do you always use the gift cards you receive during the holidays?
